About Us

Our practice

LANABE—an architecture studio located near Mexico City for the past 8 years—develops projects and constructions based on sustainable principles:

• Building with local materials
• Designing for responsible use of energy
• Finishing based on local artisan people and the different techniques learned with experience (Tadelakt, polished floors, detailed woodwork, etc.)

Spaces for Healing

One of our main design goals is to focus on the healing qualities of the space. People live in built spaces, so we strive to provide them with healthy environments that will in time define their lives.

We consider both the client’s and the environment’s needs into the design process. Based on these two main aspects we decide on the form, function and materials necessary to create a healthy space. We make sure that our
design meets the client’s needs, stays within budget, and harmonizes with the land and social surroundings.
With this very specific intention in mind we have developed several proposals that have resulted in built projects that include, but are not limited to: spas, a health clinic, Eco-housing, sweat lodges, and yoga rooms.

This clear intention has resulted in different proposals and built projects that include: Spas, a Health clinic, Ecological houses, Sweat lodges, Yoga rooms, etc

Our Team

Arch. Esteban Díaz de la Vega A.

Born in Mexico City, obtained his degree in architecture from National University of México (UNAM) with a research in Biomimicry. Since then he traveled around the world in order to accumulate experience in different countries: Ireland, Italy and India where he studied earth construction in Auroville Earth Institute (2005). Back in México, he worked in Loreto Bay Co. as supervisor in the Earth Construction Team (2007-2008). He started his own architecture studio in Malinalco where he has been designing and building for 8 years and mastering the use of sustainable materials (strawbale, earth construction reclaimed wood and bamboo) and handmade finishes (Tadelakt, polished cement and soil plasters)

OPCO Ingeniería

For every project we team up with OPCO engineers because of their professional expertise in engineering, calculations, topography, digital photogrammetry, and urban planning.  This offers us a comprehensive vision of our work, with which we interact from day one of each project.

Ing. Víctor Rubén Ordóñez Candelaria

Víctor is our engineer for wooden and bamboo structures. His 30-year experience in timber frames and structures and his laboratory at INSTITUTO DE ECOLOGÍA in Xalapa, Veracruz , complement our projects perfectly and allows us to create a completely new structure for each project.
